You don't have a website?
Our struggle with trying to build a company website.
The two most important things that people ask you when they know you're an entrepreneur:- a) name of your company, b) your company website.
Unfortunately, it's been almost 2 years since our struggle to create a company website began; and we still don't have one. We have tried on countless occasions to make one; but alas all attempts have failed miserably. It couldn't have been b'coz we lacked the coding prowess. In the course of the last 2 years, our tech leads have typed in over 150K lines of code. But none of us managed to complete the company website.
So we decided to dive in a bit deeper and understand why we couldn't build a simple company website.
- Lack of Motivation
We've this huge issue with 'being motivated'. The only 2 times that we 'really' want to build a company website is when people ask for it; or when we see someone else's super cool website. We're quite happy without it the rest of the time.
- We're more into mobile apps
At Riafy, we're currently focussed on building apps on android. Most of our apps are free to download, and we use a Zero marketing strategy devised by Joseph. What that essentially means is that we DO NOT spend even a dime on marketing our apps. They drive traction on their own. This eliminates the need of pretty portfolio.
- Fixated on back-end technology
Our's is a data mining company at heart with databases & relationship algorithms consuming most of our time. What's left goes into design and apps. Since we aren't looking at licensing the back-end analytics, we don't have clients checking us out. As for the others who want to reach out to us, our developer email is public; also Startup Village does a really good job of directing folks to us. ☺
In the course of all this, what we realised was that money is never a motivator. If it were, we would've put up a company website using this theme we picked up from theme-forest.
Steve Jobs was right when he said 'the only way to do great work is to love what you do'. We'll be giving it another shot in the coming days. Hope we discover passion then. Better late than never.
Fingers Crossed.
